What Is It?
The word poverty conjures up all sorts of images of deprivation and poor housing conditions. No one wants to be classed as being poor or in poverty but the fact is that many homes are fuel poor, as many as 1 in 3 in some areas of the country.
A household is defined as being in fuel poverty when it has to spend more than 10% of its income on fuel in order to keep warm. Fuel poverty is caused by a combination of factors such as poor household energy efficiency, high fuel costs, and low household income.
North Staffs Warm Zone aim to eradicate fuel poverty by providing FREE grants for loft and cavity wall insulation as well as benefits and energy advice to as many homes as possible. Increasing household income is another way of removing a household from fuel poverty. More income = more money to pay energy bills.
If you think you are classed as fuel poor simply complete a self-assessment form or online application. We will calculate your fuel poverty rating for you and let you know if you qualify for a FREE grant.
! Remember - To calculate your fuel poverty rating, we need to know your household income.
